Nope, it’s not an April Fool’s joke! After years and years of delays, attendees of CinemaCon 2025 finally got to see a first look at the third installment of the Spider-Verse trilogy, which follows the journey of a young Miles Morales and his friends into the multiverse. While the studio hasn’t released the teaser online as yet, Sony has shared a few promo images and at last revealed Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse‘s new release date! The animated superhero franchise, which originally began with Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in 2018 and continued with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse in 2023, is coming soon. Well, sort of. It’s two years away.
Beyond the Spider-Verse was originally set to release on March 29, 2024, but was delayed indefinitely in July 2023 due to writers’ strikes and delays in production. Thankfully, the incredible new promo images showcasing characters like Miles Morales, Gwen Stacy, and the new version of Prowler prove that the wait was totally worth it, as the visuals look just as striking as ever.
At Sony’s CinemaCon 2025 event, both directors, Bob Persichetti and co-director Justin K. Thompson, took to the stage to express how much it means to them to finish the story and finally tell the fans what is happening. The duo who worked on the first two installments of the franchise shared in a statement:
“We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles’ journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting. The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. We have crafted what we feel is a very satisfying ending, and we can’t wait for fans to experience it – we’re bringing everything we’ve got!”

According to the directors, Beyond the Spider-Verse will pick up right where Across the Spider-Verse left off. After a dramatic escape from Oscar Isaac’s Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099) and his fellow Spideys, Miles Morales (voiced by Shameik Moore) returns to what he thinks is his own reality, only to discover he’s actually landed on Earth-42, where his father has died and his Uncle Aaron is still alive. But in this world, the absence of Spider-Man has led to rampant crime, with the new Prowler being none other than Miles’ alternate universe counterpart.
Earlier this year, Jharrel Jerome, who voices the Earth-42 version of Miles (a.k.a. Prowler), told Decider that he had yet to begin work on the highly anticipated sequel. In January 2025, Jerome revealed: “No, I wish. We haven’t started up yet. A lot of things [are] being figured out, but good things.”
Writer and producer Chris Miller also opened up about the film and warned fans that Beyond the Spider-Verse might not end in a good way:
“Look, it takes time, but we got to make you wait a little bit. You know what I mean? But it’s coming. There’s not going to be a dry eye in the house. I’ll tell you that. It’s not going to wrap up in a nice little bow.”
This is a strong indication that the film is sure to be a heart-wrenching finale to Miles’ story.

Sony’s Spider-Verse franchise, which has taken in over $1 billion worldwide, has turned the animation business upside down, offering eye-popping visuals and a kind of storytelling that is not only daring but also addresses some serious issues. The story grapples with the idea of identity—from both personal and cultural perspectives.
Reflecting on his role as the first biracial Spider-Man, Shameik Moore recently shared: “This kid could be white, Black, Asian, Hispanic. He just happens to be Black and Hispanic. It reflects what New York looks like, what the world looks like today.”
As you can tell, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is shaping up to be an epic conclusion to the trilogy. With massive stakes, awesome visuals, and a powerful storyline that Sony promises will leave audiences in tears, the film is bound to break records. June 4, 2027, can’t come soon enough! Two years is a long time to wait.
