PlayStation 5 (PS5) gaming on the go is finally a reality with the new POGA LUX portable case. Unlike what one might initially think, this is not a hand-held version of the PlayStation 5 console but rather a case that will not only protect players’ PS5 consoles but also allow them to be played while in the case. While not an accessory that is officially licensed by Sony, the possibility of gaming on your PlayStation 5 wherever you go is finally here with this new portable case by the German company INDIGAMING.
The Company Bringing Us the Portable PlayStation 5
INDIGAMING is a company created by gamers who found a gap in the commercial market for portable gaming for the PlayStation consoles. Their POGA line is the only PlayStation case proudly made in Germany to make high-quality protective cases with high-quality materials. Their goal was to incorporate gaming-grade components and smart features that fit PlayStation consoles.
The POGA LUX
For 1,499 Euros, it is now possible to own a portable PlayStation 5 console and game on the go. The price includes an aluminium case, equipped with a trolley for portability, as well as a brand-new PlayStation 5 with the option of one or two controllers and a built-in screen for playing while the console is installed in the case.
The case is equipped with a 24-inch gaming screen that is frameless, letting you immerse yourself in the virtual world of gaming. The screen has FreeSync Premium capabilities which are the technologies that raise the bar on gaming displays. The screen also emits low blue light, making it easier on gamers’ eyes for extended periods. Lastly, the screen incorporates a built-in speaker for enjoying the soundtracks of various epic games.
The case features the ability to be plugged straight into the wall socket, while the case itself hides all cables from the PlayStation 5 console for a neat, sleek, cable-free look. It is also equipped with four USB ports in the front for charging controllers or charging cell phones. Two of the USB ports appear to be normal USB ports, while the other two appear to be USB 3.0 capable.
The description of the portable PlayStation 5 case on their website reads: “With the POGA Lux, your brand-new PS5 gets a new home wherever you are. Enjoy the beauty of gaming on a pro-level with pro equipment.”
Too Much of a Niche Item?
Half the draw of a PS5 is the ability to play with the console on a TV of whatever size a person might want, usually in the comfort of home. Is this portable PlayStation 5 too much of a niche item for the general public? While it would be useful for those who are regularly on the move, or gamers who live in small living spaces, it may cater more towards the relatively small community that are streamers or gamers that need to play on the go.
It is, however, excellent to see companies finding gaps in the gaming community and creating items to fill these gaps.
